The Black Studies Department at Mesa College understands that enduring educational excellence starts with a genuine sense of belonging within an environment that cultivates a high regard and deep repect for students' "Knowledge of Self". The African principle of communalism "I am because we are, and we are therefore I am" is central to students' personal and academic success, rooted in a firm foundation of Self-Love which that produces an authentic appreciation for the contributions of others, commitment to social justice and pursuit of equity in all aspects of  the human experience. 

 

Employers from around the global are in need of students who are well-rounded in their knowledge base, culturally competent and able to create and maintain appropriate, effectieve collaboative relationships with all cultures and people of the world.
